I received a letter from Tim Haney today. Dale had contacted him about the dignity and respect issue towards Postmasters. Apparently, due to these desparate economic times, some POOMs and District Managers are not treating Postmasters with dignity and respect in discussions with them. There have also been claims of Postmasters fearing retribution if they complain about the lack of dignity and respect during discussions. Mr. Haney's letter was clear. Postmasters are to be treated with dignity and respect and should not fear any type of retribution for complaining of ill treatment. Therefore, if you have experienced the above in dealings with your POOM or the district manager, you need to contact me via my personal phone line to discuss the situation. Mr. Haney wants me to get back to him if these situations are in fact taking place. Another subject is higher level offices taking over the admin duties of small post offices. This is not supposed to be happening. If you are aware of this occuring, you need to contact your state presidents initially so they can inquire and investigate. Again, I need to be aware of this situation so I can report back to Mr. Haney. Thanks for your efforts on behalf of NAPUS.

I have to say that Poom Don Lemay does a great job. (And since I am not looking for a promotion or recognition I can say that without anyone smirking!) In regards to higher level offices taking over admin of smaller offices, this was mentioned in the national Postmaster Gazette. Heather told me today that rumor has it that Enfield was going to be doing this for West Enfield? Not sure of the towns, but it is not true. I wonder how much of this talk is designed to frighten Postmasters away from the FLSA issue.
